Feeling Overstimulated? Try These 3 Small Resets

When everything starts to feel like too much, it’s often because your nervous system is overstimulated. You might feel tense, shut down, reactive, or mentally overloaded. These are common signs of stress building up without enough release. Here are three simple ways to reset and bring yourself back into balance.

First, focus your hands on one thing. Coloring, sorting, folding, or any repetitive task can help calm the nervous system by shifting your attention to something steady and physical.

Second, change your sensory input. Turn off background noise, step outside, lower the lights, or wrap yourself in a blanket. Small sensory shifts can help your brain feel safer and more grounded.

Third, let your breath catch up. You don’t need a routine or technique. Just notice your inhale and exhale. A few quiet moments can interrupt the stress response and give your system space to settle.

These are small resets that support nervous system regulation. They won’t fix everything, but they can help you feel more calm, focused, and present, especially on overstimulating days.
